Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Payroll Specialist is a key contributor to the accurate and compliant processing of payroll for a multi-state workforce. Reporting directly to the Payroll Supervisor, this role partners closely with Human Resources, Finance, and Field Operations to execute payroll operations, support Dayforce Time and Attendance processes (including Dayforce clocks), and drive process excellence. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, systems-savvy, and committed to delivering an exceptional Associate experience.

 

  • Process weekly payroll using Dayforce and maintain accurate records of pay data submissions.  Accurately process all Associate changes (hires, terminations, pay adjustments, bonuses, commissions, and referrals) in Dayforce.
  • Manage weekly time and attendance administration via Dayforce, including validation of hours, resolution of exceptions, and ensuring timely manager approvals.
  • Oversee use and troubleshooting of Dayforce Clocks across multiple locations, coordinating with IT and field leaders as needed.
  • Enter and monitor all garnishments and other legally required deductions in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Process Associate payroll deductions such as loans, ensuring accurate tracking and repayment.
  • Run weekly payroll audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll.
  • Participate in payroll and accounting audits.
  • Generate weekly, monthly, and ad hoc payroll reports for Finance, HR, and operational leadership.
  • Provide training to field managers and HR team members on payroll procedures, Dayforce functionality, and timekeeping best practices.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to payroll processes, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Complete employment verifications promptly and professionally.
  • Support local new hire onboarding with payroll and timekeeping orientation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including processing in a multi-state, multi-location environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Dayforce, including Time and Attendance and Dayforce Clocks, is required.
  • Proven ability to manage payroll for 4,000+ Associates with accuracy and attention to compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • An ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-service orientation.
  • Experience developing or updating process documentation and payroll SOPs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of payroll tax compliance, wage and hour laws (FLSA), and state-specific labor laws.
  • Exposure to payroll audits and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with integrations between HRIS, timekeeping, and financial systems.
  • Proficiency with payroll software (Dayforce preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (preferred). Certification a plus.
